The immigration office is the place where joy and suffering are very close together.
For some, this is the place where they get their residence permit, for others it is the place where they receive their acquiescence and the request to leave Germany. The immigration office is easy to reach by train. If you get off at the central station, it is only a 3 minutes walk.
Right at the start, outside of the entrance, there is a sign that clearly indicates that you can not appear without appointment. If you still get there without one, you will be kindly asked to make an appointment and than been sent away. Appointments can be made by phone or you can receive an invitation by mail. It is important to arrive on time, otherwise you have to expect very long waiting times.
After entering the building, the waiting area is on the right. You simply go in there, stand at the window and wait for one of the employees to open the window. To avoid confusion with the name, it makes sense to present the invitation or the identity card, the permission or the toleration.
After checking if you have an appointment, you will receive a waiting number. With this number you sit down in the waiting area and wait for the number to appear on the TV.
It is highly recommended to have a lawyer, because then all asylum and residence issues are clarified by him. There are so many laws and you do not want to do or say anything wrong, that may hinder the asylum procedure. All that really needs to be signed by you is that you have received the new ID. All other documents should always be checked by the lawyer.
